2011 Paladin Summer Chess Classes

Learn to play Chess or improve your game this summer! Join the fun and explore the tactical and strategic concepts used successfully by the masters. Week-long summer classes for novice through intermediate level players will focus on fun while challenging students to develop a more complete understanding of the game.

• Beginning level classes will be introduced to the 3 phases of chess—the opening, middle and

endgame. Basic objectives, tactics and strategies will be covered, in a fun, social classroom.

• Intermediate students will learn to analyze one’s games, problem-solve, apply a three-step

thinking process, use algebraic chess-notation and play match games with chess clocks.

Instructor Gjon Feinstein is a National Master and lifelong chess player with over 10 years experience teaching chess in Santa Cruz county schools. Gjon led 3 teams of local players to 1^st place division wins at the 1999, 2000 & 2005 California Scholastic Chess Championships. In addition to summer classes, Gjon is available by appointment for private and semi-private lessons for both children and adults.
